Co-Presidents

  • Staff Appreciation: Help coordinate teacher luncheons and find creative ways to say "Thank You" to faculty, staff, administration and bus drivers throughout the year. This opportunity requires about 6-8 hours of planning per event; with 4-5 events throughout the year.
  • Yearbook Liaison: Coordinates yearbook and 5th grade dedications along with Murdock staff volunteering on Yearbook.

VP Fundraising

  • Business Partnerships/Sponsors: Help secure corporate sponsors to support PTA programs throughout the year. The time commitment varies depending on the plan put in place by the chairperson and VP of fundraising. Most of the efforts to secure sponsorship are made in the summer and at the beginning of the school year. As with membership, this also helps fund our resources to support the school and equally as rewarding.
  • Membership: Assist with the PTA membership drive & incentive. Requires 1-2 hours helping to man the membership table at back to school orientations, Kindergarten registration, etc. Before back-to-school orientation, the committee will get together for 2 hours to stuff membership packets on a night that works best for everyone. This is our main source of income to support the school, so it is a rewarding committee to be a part of!
  • Spirit Wear: Assist with the sale of school logo merchandise. Volunteers will help man the spirit wear tables at orientation, and the 3-4 other events throughout the year. 1-2 hours per event would be required at the volunteer's availability.

VP Events

  • East Cobb Parade:  Help to organize with MESF and School Council parade decorations and communication to invite Murdock Families to walk in parade. This is usually in September and a great opportunity for all groups to work together to support the school and our Teacher and Certified Employee of the Year! Required time commitment depends on choices decided by chairpersons. Volunteers are needed to help support the chairpersons with decorations and coordinating at the actual parade (2-3 hours).
  • International Night: Oversee and help with International Night that promotes inclusion of our diverse Murdock population. Previous chairs are happy to give insight on set-up etc., but this does give the opportunity for the new chairpersons to make it their own. We host this event in January. Time commitment will vary depending on the plans decided by co-chairs. It is a well attended event at Murdock.

VP Family Engagement

  • Beautification Chair – Decorates the front lobby of Murdock seasonally.
  • Birthday Book Program: Help coordinate and assist with monthly book donation celebrations to benefit the Media Center- Birthday Book Celebrations are once a month and are done before school starts. The average volunteer spends 45 minutes a month for this program. This is a great opportunity for working parents who want to volunteer in the school.
  • Book Fair: Assist the media specialist with Murdock’s bi-annual book fair behind the scenes or assisting students. This opportunity would allow for the choices of volunteering for 1-2 hour shifts, and/or helping set up or take down for about 3 hours each. Book fairs occur two times a year.
  • Community Outreach: Work with counselors and teachers to assist in activities that support local charities. Example: Pet supply drive for a local animal shelter.
  • Exceptional Children Committee – Helps to support and celebrate exceptional students at Murdock Elementary by educating students and increase awareness about different types of disabilities, as well as to encourage and promote inclusion of differently abled individuals. Will also help to support special educators and staff members who provide services to these amazing children.
  • Health & Wellness: Work closely with the school nurse and counselors and help with program activities that promote good health. Because this is a fairly new program for us, we do not yet know the time commitment, however the committee can determine that, based on the programs or type of support you plan on providing as a committee.
  • Honoring Our Heroes: Assist in the coordination of Murdock’s role in the National PTA “Honoring Our Heroes” writing competition. This event happens once a year. You can expect about 2-3 months of coordination and planning for this. Most of the "work" can be done off campus to support our chairperson for Honoring Our Heroes.
  • Media Center Liaison: Serves as liaison to PTA to communicate needs and updates from the Media Center.
  • Reflections: Assist in the coordination of Murdock’s role in the national PTA “Reflections” art competition throughout the fall. This event happens once a year. You can expect about 2-3 months of coordination and planning for this. Most of the "work" can be done off campus to support our chairperson for Reflections.
  • Room Parent Coordinators: Coordinates all room parents at each grade level and communicates PTA needs to room parents to distribute to individual classes.
  • Veterans Day Committee – Works with admin to organize and decorate for the Veterans Day breakfast Friday, November 10 in the cafeteria.
  • Volunteer Coordinator: Coordinates with committees and PTA board to gather volunteers for PTA events and communicate details leading up to the event.
  • Welcome Committee: Assist in activities welcoming kindergartners and new students at the beginning of the year and new students throughout the year. This would include Kindergarten Registration, Sneak Peak, and Kindergarten assessment days. On these days, we would need volunteers in 1-2 hour shifts. The rest of the year is sporadic as new families join.
